First of all, your financial thermostat is the amount of money you think you’re worth. Regardless of what you do or who you work for, you’ll never make more than the number your financial thermostat ’s set at. Even if it looks like you’re going to make a lot more, something will happen…you’ll sabotage the deal somehow so that your thermostat number is the one you make in the end. Does this sound familiar? Do you agree? Do you think you have a financial thermostat?
If you want to make more money…a lot more money…you have to re-set your thermostat. You have to re-program your mind. Because your mindset is absolutely key to making more money. If you don’t change that you’re wasting your time and money even trying. Because you’ll just wind up with the same number when it’s all said and done. It’s not unlike trying to lose weight. You’ve got a weight thermostat…a number you think you should weigh. And unless you change that number, you’ll go up and down for decades hovering around that same number give or take 5 or 10 pounds. Is this making sense? Let me know.
So the big question here is how do you change the number? How do you re-set the thermostat? That will be the subject of the next couple of posts.
You are right. We need to be clear on the amount we plan to obtain. We also need to read raise the bar and begin looking at what we need to do to achieve our new level of financial success.
In addition we need to look at what we will change in our lives or let go of to achieve our goals. If giving up on time with our children appears necessary, we may need to adjust our strategies or our goals or both.
Last it is important to consider the reason we need the money. What are we going to do with it to benefit and seve the needs of others.
